A two day state level seminar on “Quality Enhancement in Teacher Education through Innovative Practices” organised by Sai Shyam College of Education, Ghou-Manhasa, Jammu in collaboration with NAAC, Bangalore was inaugurated at college here today.Prof. Varun Sahni, Honb’le Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Eminent Resource person and educationist Prof. Nissar Ali ,Member State Finance Commission , J&K, Prof. Rajive Gupta, Director CDC, Jammu University, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head and Dean ,Deptt. of Education, University of Jammu were Guests of Honour . Sh. C.L.Tickoo , Chairman Sai Shyam Educational Society, Dr. Usha Tickoo, Principal of the College, Distinguished Guests, Principals and faculty members of other colleges along with the delegates and the students were also present on the occasion.
The function started with lighting of the traditional lamp. The college students presented a welcome song.
In his inaugural address Prof. Varun Sahni applauded the role of college in organising such seminars and said that we need to reflect the role of teacher and role of Private sector. Education is a major instrument which transforms the society. Teaching is a noble profession, but no body says that teachers should be paid well. NAAC plays valuable role in improving quality and brings excellence in Higher Education.
Earlier, In her welcome address Dr.Usha Tickoo , Principal thanked the chief guest and other distinguished guests for attending the inaugural function. She said that the college is tirelessly working towards an objective to provide excellent education to pupil teachers. She said that “today’s seminar has an added importance as it is sponsored by NAAC Bangalore”
Prof. Nisar Ali in his key note address said that the nation has witnessed educational growth both in quantitative and qualitative terms over the last six decades. But the proportion of expenditure on education in relation to gross domestic product is very low.
Prof. Varun Sahni released the College News letter on the occasion and also inaugurated the Conference Hall. The Chairman of the college presented mementos to the Chief Guest and the Guests of honour. The programme was anchored by Mrs. Girja Zutsi and vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Nidhi Koul.
The seminar concluded on 8th May,2010 with Valedictory function presided by Prof. Sham Lal Gupta, Director, Higher Education, J&K .
The seminar spread over four Technical sessions, chaired by Prof. Lokesh Verma, Head and Dean ,Deptt. of Education, University of Jammu , Prof. Nissar Ali ,Member State Finance Commission , J&K, Dr. Lokesh Koul, Professor Emeritus & Former Pro Vice Chancellor, H.P. University, Prof. Meenakshi Kilam, Director , Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu.
About 34 papers & case studies were presented in four Technical sessions by the delegates from the various institutions of Jammu province. The rapporteurs of the technical sessions , Mr. H.K.kitchloo, Ms. Rajni Koul, Ms. Renu Choudhary and Ms. Meena Gupta summarised the deliberations of the four Technical sessions. Dr. J.L.Raina, Educational Advisor, IQAC of the college read the suggestions / recommendations which emerged out of the deliberations.
Prof. Sham Lal Gupta, Director, Higher Education, J&K presided over the Valedictory function. He was warmly welcomed by the principal and the faculty of the college. In the valedictory function Prof. Sham Lal Gupta congratulated the Principal & Staff of the college in organising such a seminar by providing platform to the different institutions to come forward to take part in this seminar. The College has done a wonderful job in giving lead to other colleges. Professional development is the basic requirement for the upliftment of the system.
The Principal of the college Dr. Usha Tickoo in her welcome address gave the background of the college and said that quality assurance and sustenance has become contemporary mantra for attainment of excellence in the area of academics.
Sh. C.L.Tickoo, Chairman of the College presented mementos to Prof. Sham Lal Gupta, Director Higher Education, J&K. Prof. Lokesh Koul, Prof. Meenakshi Kilam & Prof. H.R Shan were also presented mementos. The Chief Guest Prof. S.L.Gupta distributed the certificates among the participants who presented papers in the seminar. On the occasion, students of the college presented a colourful cultural programme. The proceedings of the Valedictory function were conducted by Ms.Nidhi Koul and the function concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Rajni Koul.

The annual alumni meet was organized at Sai Shyam College of Education, Ghou- Manhasan here today.
The alumni of the college from the States of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh besides, Jammu and Kashmir attended the meet. C. L. Tickoo, chairman of the college, was the chief guest of the programme.
The occasion was marked with the presentation of colorful programme by the college students. The alumni also held an interaction session with the students and shared their experiences with them.
Earlier, Principal Usha Tickoo welcomed the alumni and appreciated the efforts put forth by them in the academic achievements of the college. She also threw light on the future plans of the college and role of alumni.
On the occasion, the students of the college who excelled in different activities were awarded with certificates of merits and prizes.
The whole programme was compered by Shri Krishan while, vote of thanks was presented by Rajni Koul.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (lQAC) Sai Shyam College of Education , Ghou-Manhasan, organized Teacher Felicitation programme on the eve of Teacher's Day. The best teachers from schools in and around the vicinity of Ghou-Manhasan were honoured by the college with best teacher award. Mr. R. K. Sharma, Joint Director, Directorate of School Education, Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Principals of various Govt. and Private schools were also present. The Principal of the college Dr.Usha Tickoo while welcoming the guest highlighted the importance of role of teacher in shaping the future of our country.
The programme started with welcome song by the students of our college. The traditional lamp was lit by the Chief Guest Mr. R.K. Sharma along with the Chairman of the College Sh. C.L.Tickoo and other guests. A speech and a cultural item were also presented by Ms. Ritu Bansal. Mr. Om Prakash student of the college also spoke on the importance of the day.
Mr. R.K. Sharma spoke on the occasion and appreciated the initiative taken by the college in encouraging the teachers by felicitating them for their dedication in their respective fields of education.

Adult Education Program

The NSS Unit of Sai Shyam College of Education organized a two days camp in village Lohri Chak in collaboration with Adult Education Unit of the college.
The students of the college presented a Nukad Natak (skit) highlighting the importance of Adult Education, which was highly appreciated by the villagers present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion the Principal of the college Dr. Usha Tickoo extended her thanks to the Punch Mrs Chanchala Devi for her presence. She also highlighted the importance of Adult Education & expressed her concern over the large no of illiterates present in the society. Mr. H.K.Kitchloo & Mrs. Rajni Koul also spoke on the occasion. The students who spoke on various issues related to adult illiteracy were Mr. Om Prakash, Ms Atika, Mr. Sri Krishan. An interaction session with villagers was also held, wherein the villagers highlighted their day to day difficulties.
During the camp the illiterate villagers were helped by the students to write their names instead of their thumb impressions. All teachers and the students of the college participated in the programme. Light refreshment was also served to the people present on the occasion.
Voter Awareness Program

Voter awareness programme was organized in Sai Shyam college of Education by Vichar Kranti manch in collaboration with Danik Jagran on 11th of April 2009. Dr. R.R. Khajuria, Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Daya Sagar, Prof. G.V.P Gupta & Mr. Ram Rattan spoke on the occasion. The speakers emphasized that providing clean and efficient governance focus should be on natural issue to strengthen the Indian democracy. There should be no immorality in politics, corruption & criminal free politics, right to recall useless M.P./ MLA, no work, no pay rules to be applied to M.P./ MLA, right for negative voting, etc.
The Student of the college Mr. Sri Krishan, Mr. Banwar Choudhary & Mr. Om Prakash also spoke on various issues related to election procedure in India. They expressed their concern over the deterioratoty conditions of law and order in the country and questioned the role of Political Leaders.
Dr. Usha Tickoo, Principal of the college also expressed her views on the topic and emphasized that there should be transparency, efficiency and accountability fixed for the elected members. She also extended her thanks to the organizers for organizing a programme of National importance in our college.

The students Participated in Kite flying competition on the occasion with great enthusiasm. The winners of the competition were awarded by the Chairman of the College Mr. C.L.Tickoo.
Lohri Celebration
Jammu Jan.12: Lohri was celebrated in Sai Shyam College of Education and Sai Shyam Public School with great zeal and fervor.
On this occasion, the Lohri fire was lit by the Chairman of the Institution Sh. C.L.Tickoo. The students of the college and school presented a cultural program which was highly appreciated by the audience. The Lohri Prasad was also distributed among the staff and students on the occasion.
Workshop for Teacher Educators held
Sai Shyam College of Education organized one-day workshop for Teacher Educators on the topic "A Model for implementing research based Instructional Strategies in lesson planning"
Prof. B. L. Handoo an eminent educationist was the resource person on the occasion. Prof. Handoo highlighted and demonstrated various instructional strategies based on the latest researches in the field of education. Suitable techniques of motivation, presentation & recapitulation, which form an integral part of lesson planning were thoroughly demonstrated and discussed by the participants.
Earlier the program started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Chairman of the college Sh. C.L.Tickoo. who was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Usha Tickoo, Principal of the college in her welcome address highlighted the importance of the workshop. She emphasized that there is a need to bring reforms and to implement new strategies in lesson planning.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Principal MIER College of Education and Prof. B.L.Thusoo, Principal, NGM College of Education chaired the two technical sessions respectively.
The workshop was attended by the Principals and faculty members of at least 20 B.Ed colleges from Jammu and Kashmir Universities. The certificates were also given to the participants.

Apr.2008Sai Shyam College of Education gets ISO 9001-2000 certification, Press Release State Times.
JAMMU Apr.30: The Sai Shyam College of Education was certified by ISO 9001-2000 on Wednesday. The auditors of Direct Assessment Services (DAS) certification limited accredited by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), Sunil and Ajay of ISO awarded the certification to the Chairman of the College. C.L.Tickoo and Principal, Dr. Usha Tickoo. The certificate was presented in the presence of management members and principals of various practicing schools at a function. The function was also attended by Dr. J. L. Raina, Alok and other dignitaries.
On the occasion, students of the college presented colorful cultural items which enthralled the audience. In her welcome Address, Dr. Usha Tickoo highlightened the qualitative improvement of the college in terms of infrastructure and achievements. She disclosed that Sai Shyam Public School and Sai Shyam ETT institute were also certified by the ISO 9001-2000 certificate. Chairman of the College presented memento to the ISO representatives. JAMMU Apr.30: Sai Shyam College of Education, Sai Shyam Public School and Sai Shyam ETT Institute today got the ISO 9001-2000 certification.
The auditors of DAS Certification Ltd. accredited by UKAS awarded the certificate to C.L.Tickoo., chairman and Dr. Usha Tickoo, Principal of Sai Shyam College of Education.
At the time of presentation, Principals of various practicing schools and management members were also present. A colorful program was presented by the students of the college to commemorate the occasion.
Sanitation, Yoga awareness camp held, Press Release Daily Excelsior.
JAMMU Apr.26: Under Community Development Program, Sai Shyam College of Education in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sanstha today organized a day long sanitation and yoga camp at Lohri Chak in Ghou Manhasann.
Dr. Suresh Gupta and Mr. Jeevan Lal from Bhartiya Yog Sanstha were the resource persons at the camp. They demonstrated various yoga practices for healthy living and gave tips for leading a stress free life.
A large number of people from Lohri Chak and adjoining areas along with staff and students of the college took part in the camp. The NSS unit of the college demonstrated the use of Potassium Permanganate in the water tanks.
the program was organized in continuation with last year's survey conducted by the college wherein it was observed that most of the people of the said village were living in poor sanitation conditions.
Principal Dr. Usha Tickoo expressed gratitude towards the Bhartiya Yog Sanstha and the people of Lohri Chak.

JAMMU 26th April.: Sai Shyam College of Education in collaboration with Bharitya Yog Sanstha organized one-day Sanitation and Yoga Camp at Lohri Chak of Ghou-Manhasann locality under the Community Development Programme (CDP).
The resource persons, Dr. Suresh Gupta and Jeevan Lal from Bharitya Yog Sanstha demonstrated various Yoga practices for healthy living and gave various tips for leading a stress free life.

JAMMU. 21st April: Five day orientation course in art of living concluded in Sai Shyam College of Education on Monday. Large number of students and faculty members participated in the part first course which was held for three hours every day.
The course was conducted by the Instructor of Art of Living, Jammu Branch, Bhagwan Dass Vaghela and later joined by Anamika.
During the five days programme the participants were given practice in various breathing techniques. Sudharshan Kriya was practiced along with techniques of Pranayama and meditation.
On concluding session, participants shared their experience and agreed to fact that all these techniques have helped them to release their tension.
Principal of the College, Dr. Usha Tickoo thanked the Art of Living Organization for conducting the programme.
She also thanked the college management for providing this opportunity to the students and the staff free of cost. She expressed her satisfaction on the way a sense of belongingness with the whole world was generated among the participants by shedding negative energy and helping one to live in present.

Painting, Poster making competition held, Press Release Daily Excelsior.
JAMMU. March 20: SOS Herman Gmeiner School,Gole Gujral in collaboration with Sai Shyam College of Education, Ghou Manhasann organized a Painting and Poster making competition in the school premises today. Students from different schools of Jammu participated in the competition.
Prof. Usha Tickoo, Principal, Sai Shyam College of Education was the chief guest on the occasion.
Sudesh Malla, Director, SOS Children's Village and Mohd. Ayyub, Principal were also present. Renowned artists Shivashish Koul and Satpal Deol were the judges. The winners were awarded medals and certificates along with cash prizes of Rs.300, 200 and 100 respectively in each category.

PARTICIPATION IN SYMPOSIUM
On 12th March, 2008 two students from the college viz Manish Pareek – Roll N0. 150, Prem chand – Roll no 75 participated in the symposium organized by the NSS unit, University of Jammu. The topic of the symposium was “Role of Youth in Promoting Social Harmony and National Unity”.
At least 16 students from the college participated in 35th inter collegiate athletic meet 2007-08 which was organized by the Deptt. Of Physical education, University of Jammu. The various events held during the Athletic meet were 100 mts Race, 200 mts race, 400 mts Race, 800 mts Race, 5000 mts Race, 10000 mts Race, 4X100 Relay race, Discus throw, Hammer throw, Javlin Throw, High jump, Long Jump and shot put. The students from the college participated in 48 events.
WORKSHOP ON TEACHING AIDS
The college organized three day workshop on Teaching Aids from 14th to 17 th March 2008. the students were given training in preparing teaching aids which they had to use during Micro and Macro teaching practice.
Earlier the workshop was inaugurated by the chairman of the college Sh. C.L.Tickoo who was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Usha Tickoo, Principal of the college in her address highlighted the objectives and importance of the workshop and stressed upon the need for preparing of teaching aids for a teacher.

ALUMNI MEET
An Alumni meet was held in the college premises on January 19, 2008.
Large number of alumni from the different North Indian states attended the meet and also elected representatives of their association. C L Tickoo, chairman of the college was the chief guest while the programme was also attended by staff, members of management and students.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the students to mark the occasion. Meanwhile, Manisha Bhardwaj was elected as the general secretary while Sapna Jolly, Sunita Kumari, Shivangi Bhardwaj, Shakti Verma, Rajni Verma and Satinder Singh were declared as the members of the Alumni Association.
